STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 8223 2021-2022 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY August 25, 2021 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. GALLAHAN -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Governmental Operations AN ACT to amend the legislative law, in relation to imposing term limits for members of the assembly and senate of the state of New York The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The legislative law is amended by adding a new section 2-a 2 to read as follows: 3 § 2-a. Legislative term limits. Members of the legislature shall not 4 serve more than six two-year terms in the senate or more than six two- 5 year terms in the assembly. In no event may a legislator serve more than 6 twelve years in either the senate or assembly. 7 § 2. This act shall take effect December 31, 2022 and shall apply to 8 elections held after such date.
