     Provides for technological upgrade of application process for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

An Act concerning applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and supplementing Title 44 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Consistent with federal law, the Commissioner of Human Services shall permit applicants for the federal food stamp program, authorized by Title XIII of the "Food and Agriculture Act of 1977," Pub.L.95-113 (7 U.S.C.s.2011 et seq.), to apply by phone, upload required documentation through an online application, and submit required documentation by electronic mail if the online application is unavailable.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect 180 days after the date of enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill provides for a technological upgrade of the application process for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

     Under the bill, the Commissioner of Human Services is to permit applicants for the federal food stamp program to apply by phone, upload required documentation through an online application, and submit required documentation by electronic mail if the online application is unavailable.
