SYNOPSIS

     Prohibits public institutions of higher education from increasing resident undergraduate tuition by more than four percent over prior academic year.

An Act concerning undergraduate tuition rates at public institutions of higher education and supplementing chapter 62 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Notwithstanding the provisions of any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, a public institution of higher education shall not increase the institution's resident undergraduate tuition rates for any academic year by more than four percent over the institution's resident undergraduate tuition rates for the prior academic year.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately and shall first apply to the first full academic year following the date of enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill prohibits a public institution of higher education from increasing the institution's resident undergraduate tuition rates for any academic year by more than four percent over the institution's resident undergraduate tuition rates for the prior academic year.
