§1 - C.18A:26-24
An Act concerning certain training for prospective teachers and supplementing chapter 26 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, all candidates for teaching certification who have completed 3[a]3 2[teacher] 3[certificate of eligibility with advanced standing] an3 educator2 preparation program 2[at a regionally-accredited institution of higher education] 3[approved by the commissioner2] at a commissioner-approved educator preparation program provider3 shall have satisfactorily completed a 2[program on] course or training that includes2 the recognition of, and the requirement to report, child abuse including sexual abuse.
b. 3[Beginning with the 2[2019-2020] 2020-20212 school year, any person seeking certification through the alternate route shall, within one year of being employed, satisfactorily complete a 2[program on] course or training that includes2 the recognition of, and the requirement to report, child abuse including sexual abuse 2through a certificate of eligibility educator preparation program2.
c.]3 2[The State Board of Education 1, in consultation with the Commissioner of Children and Families,1 shall establish the appropriate requirements of the program on the recognition and reporting of child abuse required pursuant to this section] All commissioner-approved educator preparation 3[programs shall be reviewed and revised to implement the requirements of this section, and the revision shall be submitted to the commissioner for approval2] program providers shall review and update their educator preparation programs to implement the requirements of this section and submit the revisions to the Department of Education for approval3.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
