SYNOPSIS

     Directs Secretary of Higher Education to establish common course numbering system for public institutions of higher education.

An Act concerning the establishment of a common course numbering system at public institutions of higher education and supplementing chapter 62 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.  The Secretary of Higher Education and the New Jersey Presidents' Council, in consultation with each public institution of higher education, shall develop, implement, and maintain a common course numbering system for general education classes leading to an associate degree or a baccalaureate degree at a public institution.

     b.    The common course numbering system shall be fully operational by September 1, 2022.

 

     2.    An independent institution of higher education in the State may elect to participate in the common course numbering system.

 

     3.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill directs the Secretary of Higher Education and the New Jersey Presidents' Council, in consultation with each public institution of higher education, to develop, implement, and maintain a common course numbering system for general education classes leading to an associate degree or a baccalaureate degree.  The common course numbering system is required to be fully operational by September 1, 2022. An independent institution of higher education in the State may choose to participate in the common course numbering system.
