STATE OF NEW JERSEY
214th LEGISLATURE
INTRODUCED JUNE 13, 2011
Sponsored by:
Assemblyman JACK CONNERS
District 7 (Burlington and Camden)
Assemblyman MATTHEW W. MILAM
District 1 (Cape May, Atlantic and Cumberland)
SYNOPSIS
Memorializes Congress to recognize importance of F-35 aircraft and support full funding of F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter Program.
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
A Concurrent Resolution memorializing Congress to recognize the importance of the F-35 aircraft and to support the full funding of the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter Program.
Whereas, Article I of the New Jersey State Constitution reads, "Government is instituted for the protection, security, and benefit of the people, and they have the right at all times to alter or reform the same, whenever the public good may require it"; and
Whereas, New Jersey has a strong and continuing legacy in support of national defense initiatives, ranging from its role in the birth of our nation to the installations in the State that serve as a key component in the current military program; and
Whereas, A strong and efficient national defense is built upon the allocation of the most technologically advanced equipment to our Armed Forces; and
Whereas, The F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter exists in production today as the only 5th Generation, international, multi-role tactical aircraft in the world today; and
Whereas, Threats to our freedom continue to emerge in an increasingly asymmetric fashion, requiring the crucial advances in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, command and control systems provided by the F-35; and
Whereas, Program affordability of the F-35 rests in the ability of the President and Congress to allocate a sufficient number of plans, which maximize economies of scale, minimize costs and allow ample and timely delivery of the production aircraft to our Armed Forces; and
Whereas, New Jersey has nearly 1,000 direct and indirect jobs with $63 million in economic impact directly associated with 51 in-State suppliers for the F-35 program; and
Whereas, The 177th Fighter Wing headquartered in Egg Harbor Township, as an integral part of the Air Sovereignty Alert mission, is strategically located for the F-35 and its mission; and
Whereas, Investing in the technological superiority of our military is a fitting honor to the millions of citizens of New Jersey and the United States who have served our nation by protecting our freedom through military service; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey (the Senate concurring):
1. The Congress of the United States is respectfully memorialized to recognize the importance of the F-35 aircraft and to support the full funding of the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter Program.
2. Duly authenticated copies of this concurrent resolution, signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and the President of the Senate, and attested by the Clerk of the General Assembly and the Secretary of the Senate, shall be transmitted to the President and Vice President of the United States, the Majority and Minority Leader of the United States Senate, the Speaker and Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, and each member of Congress elected from this State.
STATEMENT
