SYNOPSIS

     Requires written residential leases to be provided in both English and Spanish in certain municipalities.

An Act concerning certain written leases and supplementing P.L.1975, c.310 (C.46:8-43 et seq.).

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    No landlord shall offer to any tenant or prospective tenant, or enter into, any written lease unless the landlord provides the lease in both the English and Spanish languages, in any municipality containing election districts in which bilingual sample ballots must be provided pursuant to R.S.19:14-21, R.S.19:49-4, or section 2 of P.L.1965, c.29 (C.19:23-22.4).

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill provides that no landlord shall offer to any tenant or prospective tenant, or enter into, any written lease unless the landlord provides the lease in both the English and Spanish languages, in any municipality containing election districts in which bilingual sample ballots must be provided pursuant to R.S.19:14-21, R.S.19:49-4, or section 2 of P.L.1965, c.29 (C.19:23-22.4).
