AN ACT directing the joint legislative historical committee to conduct a study of state house flag restoration and to acquire a portrait of suffragist Marilla Marks Ricker.

This bill directs the joint legislative historical committee to conduct a study relative to the restoration and preservation of the flags displayed in the hall of flags of the state house. The bill also provides for the acquisition and display a portrait of suffragist Marilla Marks Ricker in the state house complex.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Thirteen

AN ACT directing the joint legislative historical committee to conduct a study of state house flag restoration and to acquire a portrait of suffragist Marilla Marks Ricker.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

268:1 Flag Restoration and Preservation; Study by the Joint Legislative Historical Committee. The joint legislative historical committee, established in RSA 17-I:1, shall conduct a study relative to the restoration and preservation of the flags displayed in the hall of flags of the state house and issue a report of its findings and recommendations to the senate president, the speaker of the house of representatives, and the governor on or before November 1, 2014. The report shall include an evaluation of different restoration and conservation options, a professional evaluation of restorability and/or a condition report of individual items in the collection, and recommendations regarding display and storage of the collection. The report shall also include estimates of the cost and timeframe for any recommendation.

268:2 Portrait of Suffragist Marilla Marks Ricker. In recognition of Marilla Marks Ricker’s accomplishments as an early suffragist and the first woman in New Hampshire history to file for the office of governor, the joint legislative historical committee may acquire a portrait of Marilla Marks Ricker upon the approval of the joint committee on legislative facilities to hang a portrait in a place of honor in the state house complex.

268:3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
