A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to provide that the names and addresses of persons excused from jury duty shall be retained by the clerk of superior court for not less than two years.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. Article 1 of Chapter 9 of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new section to read:
"§ 9‑6.2. Records of excusals, deferrals, and exemptions from jury duty.
The name and address of each person who requests and is granted an excusal, deferral, or exemption from jury duty under G.S. 9‑6 or G.S. 9‑6.1, along with the reason for that excusal, deferral, or exemption, shall be retained by the clerk of superior court for not less than two years from the granting of the excusal, deferral, or exemption and shall be a public record as defined in G.S. 132‑1."
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2013.
