A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MARSHALL ACADEMY "PATRIOTS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH CRAIG DAILEY FOR WINNING THE MAIS CLASS AA STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2010-2011 SEASON.

     WHEREAS, the Marshall Academy "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team won the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Class AA State Basketball Championship on February 19, 2011, by defeating Simpson Academy 55-45 in the finals.  The tournament was held at Brookhaven Academy; and

     WHEREAS, it was the Patriots' first State Basketball Championship since 2002; and

     WHEREAS, the Patriots improved their record to 31-7.  They advanced to the first round of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Overall Tournament, played at Mississippi College in Clinton; and

     WHEREAS, the Patriots turned to their "in-your-face" defense in the Championship Game against Simpson Academy.  It was their second win of the week over Simpson, after defeating the Cougars February 14 for the North AA Crown.  "It's tough to get in a 'rugby' match with my guys.  We aren't afraid to push back," Coach Dailey said about the State Title triumph.  Marshall Academy took a 31-16 lead to the locker room at intermission.  Simpson Academy cut it to 10 in the first couple of minutes of the second half but the Patriots won by 10 - setting off a huge on-the-court celebration for the players and their fans; and

     WHEREAS, Dakota Dailey was the top gun with 16 points, Taylor Maurey was close behind with 15, Chase Ferrell scored 10 and Kevin Fitzpatrick 9.  Coach Dailey said outstanding team defense made the difference all week.  Named to the All-Tournament Team were Taylor Maury, Chase Ferrell, Peyton Lewis and Dakota Dailey; and

     WHEREAS, Marshall Academy also defeated Bowling Green School 58-36 and Brookhaven Academy 57-41 in the State Tournament.  Brookhaven Academy had won 6 straight championships before the loss to Marshall Academy; and

     WHEREAS, the Marshall Academy "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team 2010-2011 State Championship roster is:  Jacob Driggers, Chase Ferrell, Joey Omedeo, John Tomlinson, Dakota Dailey, Andy Burleson, Matt Rappa, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Mitch Gholson, Peyton Lewis, Vince Hoyt, Brad Bennett, Taylor Maurey and Jordan Brock; Head Coach Craig Dailey; Assistant Coaches Christopher Hedglin and David Austin; and Managers Kevin Harris and Tobe West; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we acknowledge this special accomplishment by a team of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Marshall Academy "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Craig Dailey for winning the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Class AA State Championship and for their outstanding 2010-2011 season and extend to the players, coaches, sponsors and parents our best wishes as they compete in the Overall Tournament.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Daily for the team, forwarded to Marshall Academy Headmaster Jane Hubbard and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
