A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE FLORENCE HIGH SCHOOL "LADY EAGLES" SOCCER TEAM AND COACH BILL HOOD FOR WINNING THEIR FOURTH CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, Florence Soccer Coach Bill Hood gave one more inspirational speech before his Lady Eagles took the field in the 4A State Championship against reigning champ West Lauderdale. He gave another speech when his girls fell behind 2-0 at halftime, and another when they pushed the game to overtime with the game tied 2-2. So, it was no surprise that Coach Hood was speechless after Sophomore Taylor Ford drilled home the game-winning goal in sudden death, double overtime to seal a 3-2 win and the program's fourth State Title; and
WHEREAS, Eighth-Grader Meghan Sims netted the equalizer in the 60th minute when she got into a one-on-one situation and scored for an easy goal. The Lady Eagles fought off a fierce comeback attempt from West Lauderdale, which had its opportunities to regain the lead in regulation but couldn't break through the Eagle defense in the second half; and
WHEREAS, "I just kept telling them to keep their positive mindset, keep the belief in themselves and keep doing what they were doing," Coach Hood said; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Florence High School "Lady Eagles" Soccer Team and Coach Bill Hood for winning their fourth Class 4A State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Bill Hood, Florence High School Principal Tony Martin, forwarded to the Rankin County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
