A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MADISON CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL COACH CECIL HINDS UPON HIS UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS AS A MISSISSIPPI SOCCER COACH WINNING FOUR STATE SOCCER TITLES IN TWO YEARS AND THANKING HIM FOR HIS DEDICATION, DIRECTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF NOT ONLY THE SOCCER PROGRAMS AS A WHOLE THAT HE LEADS BUT ALSO TO EACH INDIVIDUAL PLAYER THAT HE HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH.

     WHEREAS, Cecil Hinds was born in Trinidad.  He graduated from Presentation College High School as Valedictorian of his class in 1993.  Also in 1993, Cecil Hinds was named Sportsman of the Year in Trinidad and was the Captain of his high school's Championship Soccer Team; and

     WHEREAS, Cecil Hinds moved to Mississippi in 1995 to continue both his education and soccer career at Belhaven College.  He also played as the lead defender with the Jackson, Mississippi, Chargers (United States International Soccer League) from 1995 through 1997.  In 1997, Cecil Hinds was named the National Association of Intercollegiate Association's Defensive Player of the Year for his performance with Belhaven College.  Hinds was awarded the United States Achievement Academy All-Star Scholar Award by Belhaven College in 2000 and was also recognized on the National Dean's List for his academic achievements; and

     WHEREAS, "Coaching soccer for Cecil is like singing for Elvis, it's just easy!  He's the best I've seen in 37 years in this profession!" said Coach Bobby Hall, former Madison Central High School Athletic Director.  "Coach Hinds is not only an amazing Coach who has won five State Championships while coaching at MCHS, he is also there for every one of his players.  He is more than we could have ever asked for!" said Madison Central High School (MCHS) Senior and Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) North All-Star Team Member Meg Watson.  MCHS Senior and MAC North All-Star Team Member BJ Sanders said, "Coach Hinds always coaches to win!"; and

     WHEREAS, "One of my greatest thoughts of Coach Hinds that will stay with me forever is that he is a Coach that will not let his players give up.  From on the field and not letting the ball go out of bounds to 'Coach, you cannot break me' while running miles.  This has been an amazing year!  We are definitely blessed with nothing but the best!  I thank Coach Hinds for all he has taught me in life and soccer lessons!" said MCHS Senior and MAC North All-Star Team Member Kristen Eddy.  MCHS Assistant Coach Ashley Davis said, "Coach Hinds is the hardest working, most humble human being that I have ever had the pleasure of working with!  And the best part about Coach Hinds is that he doesn't do it for success or glory, but he does it for the kids 100%!  I know they don't see it that way when he's making them run nationals but every single thing he does, he does for them."  MCHS Senior and MAC North All-Star Team Member Joshua Rowland said, "Coach Hinds is a great Coach!  I learned so much from him about the game of soccer and being a man"; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Cecil Hinds has led the Madison Central High School Soccer Program to five State Championship Titles in the last three years:  2012-2013, 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 MHSAA 6A State Champions for the Jaguars, and 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 MHSAA 6A State Champions for the Lady Jaguars; and

     WHEREAS, in 2014, Coach Cecil Hinds was named Coach of the Year for competitive girls' teams by the Mississippi Soccer Association.  The National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the Mississippi Association of Coaches each named Coach Hinds as Coach of the Year for Mississippi for the boys division.  Out of over 1,700 nominations throughout the United States, Coach Hinds was one of 25 winners of the Double-Goal National Coach Award presented by the Positive Coaching Alliance.  Coach Hinds was the Head Coach of the 2014 Mississippi Association of Coaches North All-Star Team.  Coach Hinds also led the Mississippi Fire Premier U14 Girls to win the Mississippi Soccer Association State Championship during that year; and

     WHEREAS, in 2013, Coach Cecil Hinds was also recognized by The Clarion-Ledger as the Coach of the Year, Boys, and also by the National Federation of High Schools as the Coach of the Year, Boys.  Furthermore, Coach Hinds led the Mississippi Fire U14 Boys to winning the US Club Regional Championship and the Mississippi Fire U13 Premier Girls to winning the US Club Regional Championship; and

     WHEREAS, in 2012, Coach Cecil Hinds led the Mississippi Fire Premier U13 Boys to winning the US Club Soccer Regional Championship.  Coach Hinds also led the Mississippi Fire Premier U16 Boys to become finalists that same year in the US Club Soccer Regionals; and

     WHEREAS, in 2011, Coach Cecil Hinds led the Houston Dynamo U16 Boys to become finalists in the USYSA Region III Playoffs.  That same year Coach Hinds led the Houston Dynamo U17 Boys and the Houston Dynamo U16 Boys to win the Mississippi Soccer Association Division I State Championships.  Furthermore, Coach Hinds was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as the Mondo Regional Coach of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, in 2010, Coach Cecil Hinds led the Gulfport High School Boys Soccer Team to win the MHSAA 6A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, in 2009, Coach Cecil Hinds led the Mississippi Fire U16 Blue Boys and the Mississippi U17 Girls to each win the Mississippi Soccer Association Division I Championship for their age; and

     WHEREAS, in 2008, Coach Cecil Hinds led the Northwest Rankin High School Boys to win the MHSAA 5A State Champions; and

     WHEREAS, in 2007, Coach Cecil Hinds led the Mississippi 94 Boys Olympic Development Program Team which was undefeated that year in Region III and produced 3 players named to the National and Region III Team:  Marlon Hairston (USA National U20), Marcus Epps (Chicago FIRE), and Ives Burnett (Real Salt Lake).  Coach Hinds was also named the Mississippi Soccer Association Coach of the Year in 2007; and

     WHEREAS, in 2006, Coach Cecil Hinds led the Mississippi Fire U12 Girls to win the Mississippi Soccer Association Division I State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, in 2005, Coach Cecil Hinds led the Mississippi Fire U15 Boys to win the Mississippi Soccer Association State Championship and was named Coach of the Year by the Mississippi Soccer Association; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Cecil Hinds led the Northwest Rankin High School Boys to win the MHSAA 5A State Championships in both 2003 and 2000; and it is with great pride that we salute and honor a Coach and mentor who has brought honor to his school, his country and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize, commend and congratulate Coach Cecil Hinds for his many accomplishments and extend to him our best wishes on this occasion and for future successes.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Cecil Hinds, forwarded to the Madison County School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
