A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND PUBLIC SERVICE OF EUPORA POLICE OFFICER KEITH CRENSHAW WHO WAS LOST IN THE LINE OF DUTY ON OCTOBER 23, 2013.
WHEREAS, on October 23, 2013, City of Eupora Police Officer Keith Crenshaw (52) was lost in the line of duty while participating in the pursuit of fleeing bank robbers. Officer Crenshaw was trying to end a high-speed chase spanning three counties; and
WHEREAS, Officer Keith Crenshaw was a citizen of Webster County, Mississippi, for his entire life and was an important member of the community as well as a dedicated and efficient public servant. Flags flew at half-mast at Eupora City Hall in his honor; and
WHEREAS, Officer Crenshaw was a veteran officer who had served with the Eupora Police Department for 10 years. Crenshaw was a certified Rescue Diver, a member of the Eupora Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of Sobriety Trained Officers Representing Mississippi in which he was dedicated to pursuing and arresting drivers under the influence. Crenshaw is survived by his six children and five grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, the Community of Eupora will miss Officer Crenshaw and his contribution to the community; and
WHEREAS, the Community of Eupora, the State of Mississippi and people from all over the nation were saddened by his untimely death. The people of Webster County supported and encouraged the taking of action to appropriately commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of Officer Crenshaw and remember him by naming U.S. Highway 82, from its intersection with Highway 182 east of Eupora to its intersection with Highway 182 west of Eupora, as a memorial highway for Officer Keith Crenshaw; and
WHEREAS, we should not pause and remember to thank police officers only in the wake of tragedy, we should do it every day. Those of us who have the privilege to lead should all strive to support law enforcement:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and public service of Eupora Police Officer Keith Crenshaw who was lost in the line of duty on October 23, 2013, and extend the sympathy of the Legislature to his surviving family and the thanks of a grateful state for his service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Officer Crenshaw, forwarded to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of Eupora, Mississippi, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
