Senate Concurrent Resolution 551

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2013 OCEAN SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL "GREYHOUNDS" GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH PATRICK HAYES FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST MHSAA 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, Ocean Springs High School, led by Head Coach Patrick Hayes, will add a State Championship to its trophy case in a new sport this year.  The "Greyhounds" won the school's first state title in girls soccer on Friday, February 1, 2013, beating Tupelo 2-0 at Arrow Field to claim the Mississippi High School Activities Association 6A Championship.  Delaney Gustafson and Ashton Stennis scored first-half goals for the Greyhounds, who finished the year 19-4-2; and

     WHEREAS, now the Greyhounds' girls have their own gold soccer ball, which will join the one claimed by the Ocean Springs boys two years ago, as well as the three consecutive state titles won by the tennis team; and

     WHEREAS, the 2013 Greyhounds Championship roster is:  Monique Autmon, Darien Ellison, Samantha Grunwald, Delaney Gustafson, Khalyn Harmon, Zakiya Levy, Katelyn Williams, Savannah Carter, Erica Charlton, Robin Cosmich, Courtney Hargroder, Jade Kindsvater, Katie Samuelson, Baylea Seymour, Ashton Stennis, Rhyan Thompson, Alex Williams, Brandi Szigeti, Kirstyn Williams, Karsen Gildea, Mary Reiger, Sarah Parker Daniels, Madison Sellers, Rylee Foster and Sunna Savani; Head Coach Patrick Hayes and Assistant Coach Warren Gifford; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this first-ever accomplishment by a team of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2013 Ocean Springs High School "Greyhounds" Girls Soccer Team and Head Coach Patrick Hayes for winning their first MHSAA 6A State Championship and extend to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes on this occasion and for future successes.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Hayes and Principal David Baggett for the team, forwarded to the Ocean Springs School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
