AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE LANDS AND PROPERTY OF MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY AND THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI SHALL NOT BE SUBJECT TO TAXATION AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE BUILDINGS AND IMPROVEMENTS THAT ARE ERECTED ON ANY LAND BELONGING TO THE UNIVERSITY THAT IS LEASED TO PRIVATE ENTITIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF OFFERING AFFORDABLE BOARD TO STUDENTS SHALL NOT BE SUBJECT TO TAXATION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The lands and property of Mississippi State University shall not be subject to state, county or municipal taxation. The buildings and improvements that are or may be erected on any land belonging to the university that has been or may be leased to private entities for the purpose of offering affordable board to the students attending the institution shall not be subject to taxation.
SECTION 2. The lands and property of the University of Southern Mississippi shall not be subject to state, county or municipal taxation. The buildings and improvements that are or may be erected on any land belonging to the university that has been or may be leased to private entities for the purpose of offering affordable board to the students attending the institution shall not be subject to taxation.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
