Senate Bill 2354

AN ACT TO IMPOSE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER FOR A PERSON TO SERVE AS A JUDGE IN ANY COURT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.   A person is not eligible to:  qualify, run for, be appointed to, or, if elected or appointed, to continue to serve as a judge of the Mississippi Supreme Court or Mississippi Court of Appeals, or any circuit court, chancery court, youth court, county court, municipal court or justice court if the person has an outstanding tax liability to the State of Mississippi or to the United States that is more than twelve (12) months delinquent that is not pending on appeal.  Enforcement of this section shall be made through the Commission on Judicial Performance as established in Title 9, Chapter 19, Mississippi Code of 1972.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2015.
