A RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING MR. L.C. GLADNEY FOR HIS EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE TO THE UNITED STATES IN WORLD WAR II, AND MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO HIS COMMUNITY.

     WHEREAS, born on May 11, 1924, Mr. L.C. Gladney, a lifelong resident of Okolona, Mississippi, in Chickasaw County, courageously served his country during World War II, and is truly an outstanding inspiration to all; and

     WHEREAS, after joining the United States Army, Mr. Gladney, who worked as an engineer, was stationed at Camp Shelby in Mississippi and in other states, until he made the long journey to serve his country in Europe; and

     WHEREAS, upon his return from the war, Mr. Gladney married Mrs. Melvina Pickens Gladney, and they raised nine children until her passing in 1966, leaving the youngest only six months old, and currently, Mr. Gladney is married to Mrs. Christine Gardner Gladney for 45 years, and they raised four children; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Gladney, a farmer for over 50 years, retired at the age of 97, and over the years, he also worked in the manufacturing industry to supplement his income to feed his family; and

     WHEREAS, devoted to his faith, Mr. Gladney is the oldest deacon at Palestine M.B. Church in Van Vleet, Mississippi; and   WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor great, heroic Mississippians, especially those such as Mr. Gladney, whose selfless service, dedication to his family, and devotion to his faith, brings honor to the State of Mississippi and to the United States of America:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby honor and commend Mr. L.C. Gladney for his extraordinary service to the United States in World War II, and many contributions to his community, and extend our best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. L.C. Gladney, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
