A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS ANNABELLE BUNCH UPON BEING SELECTED TO REPRESENT THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AS A DELEGATE TO THE JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION'S CHILDREN'S CONGRESS.

     WHEREAS, in recognition of her commitment to raising awareness for juvenile diabetes research, Annabelle Bunch from Saltillo, Mississippi, was selected to represent the State of Mississippi as a delegate to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Children's Congress in Washington, D.C.; and

     WHEREAS, the 15-year-old sophomore at Itawamba Agricultural High School was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of four, and she has since become an advocate for research funding and wants to make a difference in the lives of other children who are diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes; and

     WHEREAS, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Children's Congress, which is held every two years, started in 1999, and selects 150 children and teens from across the United States out of 1300 applications, and provides an opportunity for those living with diabetes to educate members of Congress on what it is like to live with this disease daily; and

     WHEREAS, Annabelle Bunch is the only national delegate to represent the State of Mississippi for the 2017 Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Children's Congress, and will spend two days in Washington, D.C., this summer, where she will develop leadership skills, meet with Congressional leadership and will be empowered to use her voice for a change that will improve not only her life but also the lives of millions of people who live with Type 1 Diabetes; and

     WHEREAS, this is the latest achievement for Miss Annabelle Bunch, who has spent the last 11 years raising money for and bringing awareness to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), and she has raised more than $7,800 through her Belle's Bunch Team for JDRF walks, was the inspiration for a children's book that she self-published to help children better understand diabetes and has partnered with the General Federation of Women's Clubs to have Type 1 Diabetes Research be adopted as the Southern Region's President's Philanthropy Project; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to her other accomplishments, Annabelle has spoken on a national level to organizations about diabetes awareness and research, served as a JDRF Youth Advocacy Leader, organized the JDRF Sneaker Campaign at her high school, was a Teen Advocate for the Promise to Remember Me Campaign and she volunteered with the Mississippi Chapter of JDRF to help raise more than $347,000 at the annual Hope Gala; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor fine Mississippians, such as Miss Annabelle Bunch, a young woman who exudes confidence, character and a desire to help others, and serves as an asset and wonderful role model to young girls throughout the Magnolia State and the nation with her attitude and determination that brings honor to her community and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Annabelle Bunch upon being recognized nationally for her commitment to Type 1 Diabetes awareness and by representing Mississippi at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Children's Congress in Washington, D.C., and wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Annabelle Bunch and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
