House Resolution 41
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MR. BRYAN CALDWELL UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF GULFPORT HIGH SCHOOL.
WHEREAS, after over 30 outstanding years with the Gulfport School District, Mr. Bryan Caldwell is set to retire from his position as athletic director at Gulfport High School in June 2022, a position he has held since 2012; and
WHEREAS, before becoming Gulfport High School's athletic director, Mr. Caldwell served as the Gulfport Admirals basketball coach from 1993 to 2006, winning a 6A State Basketball Championship in 2002; and served as Bayou View Middle School assistant principal and principal from 2007 until 2011; and
WHEREAS, during his distinguished tenure as athletic director, the Admirals have certainly earned a long list of honors and accomplishments, including: hosting the Bernard Blackwell All-Star Football game; leading Gulfport High School to 6A State Championships in boys basketball in 2014, boys powerlifting in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, boys soccer in 2018 and 2019, and girls soccer in 2020 and 2021; leading Gulfport to Division VIII or Region IV championships in football, boys basketball, girls basketball, boys soccer, girls soccer, baseball, boys golf, girls golf, boys track, girls track, volleyball and tennis; and overseeing the construction of a $3.5 million football fieldhouse, and $3 million practice gym; and also, under his leadership, numerous Gulfport athletes have signed scholarships to compete at the Division I, Division II, Division III, and JUCO levels; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Caldwell is also a member of the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Legislative Committee, a Gulfport Sports Hall of Fame board member, and a past president of the Gulfport Kiwanis Club; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Mr. Caldwell, whose exceptional service to Gulfport's student-athletes brings honor to the Gulfport School District, the Gulfport community, and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do recognize and commend Mr. Bryan Caldwell upon the occasion of his retirement as athletic director of Gulfport High School, and extend sincerest wishes for continued success in his lighter days ahead.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Bryan Caldwell, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
