House Resolution 36

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING YOUNG INVENTOR KAILEY MCGUIRE ON WINNING THE 2019 INVENTION CONVENTION U.S. NATIONALS.

WHEREAS, Kailey McGuire, a brilliant and innovative student whose roots originate with the Love family of Wolf Lake in Humphreys County, Mississippi, received a rare invitation to compete in the 2019 Invention Convention U.S. Nationals at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn, Michigan, in May of 2019; and

WHEREAS, Kailey's journey to the prestigious national competition began when the seven-year-old and her first grade invention partner, Jaiah Gosa, at the Lenart Regional Gifted Center on the southside of Chicago won their school's Invention Convention before capturing 1st place for the first grade level group at the Chicago Invention Convention; and

WHEREAS, while representing Chicago at the invitation-only U.S. Nationals, where 550 student inventors and entrepreneurs selected from over 100,000 Invention Convention participants in grades K-12 from across the country displayed their creations, Kailey showcased the Kid's Fun Portable Sink to much acclaim, earning her a highly-coveted national first place award; and

WHEREAS, the Kid's Fun Portable Sink, a portable, collapsible sink that can be attached to a water bottle, bears witness to the old adage "the mother of invention is necessity," for Kailey's winning creation came about after facing a problem during a beach trip when there was no place to wash her sandy hands before eating a snack; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Mississippi House of Representatives to commend excellence, especially when evidenced by outstanding young students such as Kailey McGuire, whose hard work, determination to succeed and entrepreneurial spirit in inventing the Kid's Fun Portable Sink may serve as an inspiration to all youth, the future of our tomorrow:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Kailey McGuire on winning the 2019 Invention Convention U.S. Nationals and extend to her our sincerest wishes for every success in all her future academic, inventive and entrepreneurial endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Kailey McGuire and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
