House Resolution 35
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OXFORD HIGH SCHOOL CHARGER CHEERLEADERS UPON WINNING THE 2017 GAME DAY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Oxford High School Charger Cheerleaders won their first ever national title in the medium division of the Game Day National Championship; and
WHEREAS, the competition, which took place at Walt Disney World, is unique in that it requires the cheerleaders to react to a particular cheer call, and they must execute it on the spot; and
WHEREAS, the Charger Cheerleaders faced stiff competition from all over the country, with the final round including squads from Connecticut, New Jersey, Louisiana and Florida; and
WHEREAS, the Charger Cheerleaders have practiced their routines year-round, including all summer long starting at 7 a.m. each day and after school; and
WHEREAS, the amount of pressure the cheerleaders face when competing is enormous, and having to deal with that pressure and not make any mistakes makes earning their white satin national championship jackets even sweeter; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the outstanding student athletes of our state, such as the Oxford High School Charger Cheerleaders, whose national success in their sport brings great pride to their school, families and the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Oxford High School Charger Cheerleaders for winning the Game Day national competition, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Oxford High School Principal Bradley Roberson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
