A RESOLUTION COMMENDING RICKEY OLIVER ON RECEIVING THE 2011 MISSISSIPPI TRUCK DRIVER OF THE YEAR AWARD AND THE 2011 NATIONAL TRUCK DRIVER OF THE YEAR AWARD.
WHEREAS, Rickey Oliver, a professional truck driver from Brookhaven, Mississippi, was awarded the 2011 Mississippi Truck Driver of the Year Award and the 2011 National Truck Driver of the Year Award, considered the highest honor a truck driver can receive; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Oliver has
driven over 3.5 million accident-free miles behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer
truck; and
WHEREAS, the embodiment of the professional truck driver is one who
delivers America's goods safely and efficiently every day, Mr. Oliver has shown
his exemplary skills in this arena for over 27 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Oliver is a
seven-time state champion at the Mississippi State Truck Driving Championship;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Oliver was a charter member of the Wal-Mart Road Team and a
captain of the American Trucking Association's America's Road Team; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Oliver has dedicated his life to causes that support safety,
the trucking industry and children in need, such as the Trucker Buddy
Organization, Honor Roll Driver Education Program, Operation Lifesaver and
Children's Hospital; and
WHEREAS, through Mr.
Oliver's passion for educating the public about safe driving and his commitment
to his community, he strives to make Mississippi citizens safe drivers; and
WHEREAS, there are more than 3.4 million professional truck drivers
nationwide and over 27,900 truck drivers in the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the trucking industry plays a critical role in Mississippi's
economy by transporting over 77% of its manufactured freight tonnage throughout
the state and the nation; and
WHEREAS, citizens in over 86% percent of Mississippi's communities depend
exclusively on the dedicated service of professional truck drivers like Mr.
Oliver to keep the shelves of our local supermarkets fully stocked, to deliver
medicine and medical supplies to hospitals and clinics, and to deliver goods at
every stage of production; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and
commend excellence, as especially evidenced by the safety and professionalism
of Mr. Oliver:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Rickey Oliver on receiving
the 2011 Mississippi Truck Driver of the Year Award and on receiving the 2011
National Truck Driver of the Year Award, and extend best wishes in all of his
future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Rickey Oliver and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
