A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA, INC., FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

     WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is a membership organization of mothers with children between the ages of two and nineteen years old, who are dedicated to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty; and

     WHEREAS, a woman of true virtue, Marion Stubbs Thomas founded Jack and Jill of America, Inc., on January 24, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when twenty mothers came together to discuss creating an organization to provide social, cultural and educational opportunities for youth between the ages of two and nineteen years old, and in 1946, ten chapters were involved in the national restructuring process in which a constitution and bylaws were established and the organization was incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware; and

     WHEREAS, currently, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., has over 230 chapters nationwide, representing over 40,000 family members, with each chapter planning annual programming activities guided under a national theme, and through service projects, it creates a medium of contact for children to stimulate their growth and development; and

     WHEREAS, the Jack and Jill of America Foundation, Inc., is the philanthropic arm of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and since its inception in 1968, the foundation has distributed millions of dollars to communities all across America; and

     WHEREAS, Mississippi serves as part of the Southeastern Region, which includes the Jackson and Mississippi Gulf Coast chapters, under the regional leadership of Latrecia Jordan, the 27th Southeast Regional Director, Tammie McFarland, Regional Treasurer, Nyya Parson-Hudson, Regional Secretary, Darlene M. Whittington, Member at Large, and National Editor, Gina Williams-Jackson; and 

     WHEREAS, the Jackson Chapter, under the leadership of its President Althea Davis, and Vice President, Lori Hill Marshall, boasts an extensive membership of families that are tremendously dedicated to serving the Jackson community; and

     WHEREAS, with its long list of distinguished members who have made tremendous contributions to the betterment of society through their extensive and outstanding community service since 1938, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., has become a pinnacle of hope within the State of Mississippi and across the nation; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend exceptional organizations, especially those such as Jack and Jill of America, Inc., whose extraordinary community service brings honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend the outstanding and dedicated service of the members of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and especially members of the local Mississippi chapters of Jackson and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
