A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND MERITORIOUS LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE THAT GARY T. HARGROVE PROVIDED AS THE HARRISON COUNTY CORONER UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Gary T. Hargrove, the Harrison County Coroner and community leader extraordinaire, is retiring after selflessly dedicating 23 years of illustrious service and competent guidance to the wonderful people of Harrison County, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, and a graduate of the 1973 Class of Gulfport High School, Mr. Hargrove has received numerous certifications and trainings since his time at Gulfport High, including becoming a Nationally Registered and Mississippi State Certified Emergency Medical Technician in 1980 and graduating from Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College with an associate's degree in applied sciences in 1990; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Hargrove's heart is that of a true public servant, as he spent 1975 until 1996 with the Gulfport Fire Department, retiring as District Chief, spent part of his time from 1987 until 1995 with the Harrison County Sheriffs Department, and from 1985 until 1995, he served as the Harrison County Deputy Coroner; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his years of experience, Mr. Hargrove became a Mississippi State Certified Death Investigator in 1987 and completed an FBI Basic Death Investigation Course, so when he assumed the role of Harrison County Coroner in 1996, he brought an unparalleled level of skill and expertise to the office; and

     WHEREAS, while he was serving the office of coroner with efficiency and effectiveness, Mr. Hargrove was also a member of several Mississippi organizations, including the Coroner's Association, Division of IAI, Civil Defense Emergency Management Association, Deputy Sheriff's Association and Child Death Review Team; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Hargrove has also helped a variety of groups and communities prepare themselves in the event that disaster strikes, through his roles with the Mass Fatality Incident Response Planning at Kirkwood College, the Disaster Management Interoperability Service and Threat and Risk Assessment Course with the Department of Homeland Security, Hurrevac Training with FEMA and the United States Army Corp of Engineers, Mississippi Governors Homeland Security Conference, and the National Incident Management System; and

     WHEREAS, additionally, Mr. Hargrove was the team leader of the Mississippi Sudden Unexplained Infant Death Investigation Team with the SUIDI Foundation, the Incident Commander of DMORT for Harrison and Hancock Counties in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, a forensic science instructor at the University of Southern Mississippi, the Chair of the Mississippi Mortuary Response Team, a Certified Emergency Manager Level III, and the NIMS/ICS All Hazards Incident Commander; and

     WHEREAS, after 23 years of service to the people of Harrison County, retirement will surely leave an insatiable void for investigations and medical examinations in the heart of Gary T. Hargrove, but he is overjoyed to spend time with his wife, two children and six grandchildren and relax and reflect on the countless number of remarkable people that have touched his life throughout his 23-year career as the Harrison County Coroner; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the tireless devotion to the betterment of Mississippi and honor the ardent vow to impeccable public service that Mr. Gary T. Hargrove bestowed to the citizens of Mississippi as Harrison County Coroner:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the distinguished career and meritorious leadership and service that Gary T. Hargrove provided as the Harrison County Coroner upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend sincere wishes for continued success and joy in the lighter days ahead.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Gary T. Hargrove and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
