A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COLUMBIA NATIONAL "BOMB SQUAD" AND THEIR COACHES UPON WINNING THE DIXIE YOUTH MAJORS WORLD SERIES.

     WHEREAS, the Columbia National Dixie Youth Baseball Team defeated the West Robeson Dixie Youth Baseball Team 11-6 thereby clinching the Dixie Youth Majors World Series on August 14, 2014, in Lexington, South Carolina; and 

     WHEREAS, the Columbia National's appearance in the 2014 Dixie Youth Majors World Series is an exclusive distinction that carries a prestigious demarcation for the team and the entire State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, appropriately nicknamed "The Bomb Squad," the Columbia National, who boasts a two-year undefeated season record of 39-0 and have outscored their opponents 527 runs to 88 runs, was the first team from Mississippi since 1992 to receive notoriety for reigning supreme at the Dixie Youth Majors World Series and only the 4th team from Mississippi to win the illustrious title since the beginning of Dixie Youth Baseball; and

     WHEREAS, as the premiere event on the Dixie Youth Baseball calendar that brings in a level of talent from top to bottom, the  Columbia National champions have received unparalleled recognition and bragging rights as the top Dixie Youth baseball team in the country for the second year in a row, as the National team also won the 2013 Dixie Youth Majors World Series hosted in West Monroe, Louisiana; and

     WHEREAS, the hard-hitting, base-stealing, Columbia National team defeated McComb in the state tournament on July 23, 2014, to advance to the Dixie Youth Majors World Series; and

     WHEREAS, at the World Series, the National's record was a perfect 6-0, defeating the teams from Alabama, 12-1; Virginia, 10-0; Florida, 18-7; North Carolina, 14-3; and South Carolina, 18-13; and in the final game, destroying North Carolina 11-6 to raise the coveted championship trophy; and

     WHEREAS, not only was the Columbia National team crowned victorious at the Dixie Youth Majors World Series, but they also tied the World Series record with 21 home runs in a series and set a new series record with 83 runs scored; and

     WHEREAS, the Dixie Youth Majors World Series is a 12-team, double-elimination championship tournament that presents participating athletes with national exposure in addition to providing the opportunity for the best Dixie Youth Baseball teams in the country to compete against each other; and   

     WHEREAS, the National, who arrived at the World Series with an astonishing 25-0 season record, strived for the national pennant by leaving it all on the baseball diamond during what was one of the most highly prolific series of games in the realm of Dixie Youth baseball, and the pride and esteem of the State of Mississippi accompanied the loyal fans that traveled to cheer the team to victory; and

     WHEREAS, the "Bomb Squad" consisted of the following unbeatable players: Tate Duncan, Slade Wilks, Landon Sanders, Ras Pace, Devin Daniels, Riles Stuart, Javen Moses, Aiden Singley, Robert Patterson, Harrison Foxworth, Peyton Rowell, Ethan Stringer and Team Manager, Porter Wilks; and

     WHEREAS, the Columbia National coaches, Paul Pace and Drew Foxworth, continue to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in their ability to produce high caliber players and plays, and solidify the team's successful season; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the achievement and athletic prowess of these Dixie Youth Majors World Series champions who have brought honor to their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Columbia National "Bomb Squad" and their coaches upon winning the Dixie Youth Majors World Series and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for future athletic and academic success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Paul Pace, Coach Drew Foxworth and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
