House Concurrent Resolution 7

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SIMPSON ACADEMY LADY COUGARS FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH ADAM EVANS UPON WINNING BACK-TO-BACK MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS AAAA DIVISION II FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

WHEREAS, the Simpson Academy Lady Cougars Fast-pitch Softball Team clinched a well-deserved victory when they defeated the Copiah Academy Lady Colonels Fast-pitch Softball Team to win back-to-back Mississippi Association of Independent Schools AAAA Division II Fast-pitch Softball State Championships; and

WHEREAS, similar to the agile, ferocious feline for which they are named, the Lady Cougars softball team wielded its exceptionally powerful bite to pierce through the state championship dreams of each of their opponents in the state playoffs, pulverizing Washington School in the opening round, out maneuvering Magnolia Heights School in the quarterfinals, demolishing East Rankin Academy in the semifinals and edging out Copiah Academy in the championship game; and

WHEREAS, after winning the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools AAAA Division II Fast-pitch Softball State Championships for the second year in a row, the Lady Cougars advanced to the MAIS AAA Overall Championship Series, where they completed their remarkable season as the Overall AAAA Runner-up after three hard fought games against Parklane Academy; and

WHEREAS, striving to win with unparalleled motivation and ardent determination, the Lady Cougars played their best games of the season during the championship series, as their mental stamina and athletic prowess never wavered from the moment they first walked onto that red, dusty diamond until the last out was made; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars team statistics were impressive,  but the key to this team's consistent success has been the constant selfless atmosphere, the true love they each possess for the game, and the year round hard work by each and every talented and distinguished player; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Adam Evans, who has broadened the team's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Lady Cougars have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches, bringing honor to Simpson Academy; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi student-athletes, especially those such as the Simpson Academy Lady Cougars Fast-pitch Softball Team, whose excellence on the field and in the classroom bring honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Simpson Academy Lady Cougars Fast-pitch Softball Team and Head Coach Adam Evans upon winning back-to-back Mississippi Association of Independent Schools AAAA Division II Fast-pitch Softball State Championships and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Adam Evans and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
