A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ESSIE B. AND WILLIAM EARL GLENN FOUNDATION FOR BETTER LIVING ON THE OCCASION OF HOSTING ITS FIRST COMMUNITY-FOCUSED ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES TRAUMA AWARENESS SYMPOSIUM IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, AND DECLARING JUNE 22, 2020, AS ESSIE B. AND WILLIAM EARL GLENN FOUNDATION DAY.

     WHEREAS, the Essie B. and William Earl Glenn Foundation for Better Living will host its first community-focused Adverse Childhood Experiences Trauma Awareness Symposium in the capital city of Jackson on June 22, 2020; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Robert (Bob) Anda, one of the leading researchers and founders of the concept of adverse childhood experiences, who also facilitated the landmark research on the subject of adverse childhood experiences, will be the keynote speaker for the foundation's symposium held in our fair capital city; and

     WHEREAS, this foundation is rooted in family love as it was created by siblings:  Howard, Helen, Clyde, John, Robert, Essie and Doris, to honor the "spirit of community" that their parents exuded throughout their lives, and appropriately named it after their beloved parents; and

     WHEREAS, the goals of the foundation are to address the negative results of adverse childhood experiences and provide long-term solutions which studies from the Centers for Disease Control have shown limits a person's employability, earning potential, and lifetime productivity; and

     WHEREAS, studies show that the economic cost to society for every victim of nonfatal child maltreatment averages $210,012.00 a year and $6,747.00 a year in criminal justice costs, just to name a few; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to fighting the adverse childhood experiences (ACE), the foundation tackles the issues of hunger and food insecurity in the Mississippi Delta; and

     WHEREAS, the organization partners with local businesses and community groups, such as the Mississippi Food Network and the Cleveland School District to sponsor after school and summer feeding programs; and

     WHEREAS, each year, they host an annual health fair in the city of Cleveland in which more than 55 clinical providers and service organizations attend to address the needs of uninsured and the under-insured citizens who live in our Mississippi Delta region; and

     WHEREAS, since its inception, this foundation has provided 500 flu shots, fed 7,000 community children, and distributed over 30,000 pounds of food to needy families during its Annual Health, Wellness & Safety Tailgates; and

     WHEREAS, it is our policy to honor Mississippi organizations with a mission to serve the less fortunate and improve the lives of Mississippi children:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the Essie B. and William Earl Glenn Foundation for its impressive humanitarian efforts and congratulate the organization on the occasion of its first statewide symposium and declare June 22, 2020, as Essie B. and William Earl Glenn Foundation Day.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Essie B. and William Earl Glenn Foundation and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
