House Bill 868
AN ACT TO REQUIRE BUSINESSES THAT SELL OR OFFER TO SELL GOODS OR SERVICES AT RETAIL TO ACCEPT CASH AS A FORM OF PAYMENT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) A business selling or offering for sale goods or services at retail shall not prohibit cash as payment in order to purchase such goods or services. A business selling or offering for sale goods or services at retail shall accept legal tender when offered by the buyer as payment.
(2) As used in this section, "at retail" means any retail transaction conducted in person, and excludes any telephone, mail, or Internet-based transaction.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2022.
