AN ACT

To amend chapter 196, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to labeling of genetically modified food and food products.




Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:


            Section A. Chapter 196, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 196.618, to read as follows:

            196.618. 1. All food and food products, including but not limited to livestock or livestock products, poultry or poultry products, or milk or dairy products, sold in this state that are or contain genetically modified products shall be labeled indicating that they are or contain genetically modified products.

            2. As used in this section, "genetically modified product" means a product or any product part or material in which the genetic material has been changed through modern biotechnology in a way that does not occur naturally by multiplication or natural recombination.
