1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the life of Kerry Ashmore.
1.3WHEREAS, Kerry Ashmore was born in Indiana and attended high school in Saint Paul,
1.4where he fell in love with the banjo, later earning a degree in music education from the University
1.5of Minnesota; and
1.6WHEREAS, his enthusiasm for community news, born in his volunteer work at the
1.7university radio station, led him to purchase the Northeaster community newspaper and to expand
1.8its coverage to Saint Anthony and Columbia Heights; and
1.9WHEREAS, he was deeply involved with organizations in the northeast Minneapolis
1.10community, including the Minnesota News Council and the Northeast Minneapolis Arts
1.11Association, and was always an active part of the community conversation; and
1.12WHEREAS, his passion for music remained a constant, manifested in his volunteer work
1.13with high school musicians and his performances with his band Minnesota Dixie and many
1.14others; and
1.15WHEREAS, Kerry Ashmore passed away on January 27, 2014, and a celebration of his
1.16generous and dynamic life will be held on February 25, 2014; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.18honors the life of Kerry Ashmore and extends condolences to his family, his friends on the staff
1.19of the Northeaster, and everyone who knew him, especially those in his beloved community
1.20of northeast Minneapolis.
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.22an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
2.1the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the family of
2.2Kerry Ashmore.
