1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Curt Broughten and Tom Johnson for emergency response.
1.3WHEREAS, on a slushy Monday afternoon on I-90 near Hayward, Dakota Lee lost control
1.4of his pickup truck; and
1.5WHEREAS, his pickup slammed into the back of a MnDOT snow plow truck and caught
1.6fire; and
1.7WHEREAS, Curt Broughten, the driver of the plow truck, pulled over and ran to the
1.8pickup with his fire extinguisher; and
1.9WHEREAS, another plow driver who had witnessed the accident, Tom Johnson, also
1.10arrived at the scene with an extinguisher; and
1.11WHEREAS, the two MnDOT drivers put out the fire and then tended to Lee, who was
1.12pinned inside his vehicle from the waist down; and
1.13WHEREAS, Lee sustained injuries from the crash but avoided an outcome that could
1.14have been far worse thanks to the quick thinking and decisive action of Curt Broughten and
1.15Tom Johnson; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.17it honors Curt Broughten and Tom Johnson for their efforts.
1.18BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.19an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that
1.20of the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit copies to Curt
1.21Broughten and Tom Johnson.
