1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to human services; modifying medical assistance coverage to include
1.3consultations with psychologists and advanced practice registered nurses;
1.4amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 256B.0625, subdivision 48.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 256B.0625, subdivision 48, is amended to
1.7read:
1.8    Subd. 48. Psychiatric consultation to primary care practitioners. Effective
1.9January 1, 2006, Medical assistance covers consultation provided by a psychiatrist,
1.10psychologist, or an advanced practice registered nurse certified in psychiatric mental
1.11health via telephone, e-mail, facsimile, or other means of communication to primary care
1.12practitioners, including pediatricians. The need for consultation and the receipt of the
1.13consultation must be documented in the patient record maintained by the primary care
1.14practitioner. If the patient consents, and subject to federal limitations and data privacy
1.15provisions, the consultation may be provided without the patient present.
