1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to transportation; requiring the Metropolitan Airports Commission to
1.3monitor noise to establish a baseline in a certain area; requiring a report.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. NOISE MONITORING; REPORT.
1.6The Metropolitan Airports Commission shall conduct a study that monitors aircraft
1.7noise levels for a period of two weeks in the summer or fall of 2014. The study shall be
1.8limited to three locations in the area bound by I-494 on the south, Xerxes Avenue on the
1.9east from the intersection of I-494 and Xerxes Avenue extending in a straight line north to
1.10I-394, I-394 on the north, and Trunk Highway 169 on the west. The specific location of
1.11the monitors shall be determined by the cities within the area, in consultation with the
1.12commission. No monitor may be within two miles of another permanent noise monitor.
1.13The commission shall report to the cities within the area, and to the chairs and ranking
1.14minority members of the legislative committees with jurisdiction over transportation
1.15policy and finance the results of the noise monitoring and the baseline data for aircraft
1.16noise in the area. The final report is due December 1, 2014.
1.17EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
