1.2relating to natural resources; requiring the installation of electric fish barriers.
1.3BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.4 Section 1. ELECTRIC FISH BARRIERS.
1.5The commissioner of natural resources shall install electric fish barriers, using the
1.6most modern technology available for fish dispersal systems, to address the imminent
1.7threat posed to Minnesota's lakes and rivers by Asian carp. The commissioner of natural
1.8resources shall install strategically placed electric barriers at:
1.9(1) United States Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, Lock and Dam 1;
1.10(2) the Minnesota River flood control walls in the city of Mankato; and
1.11(3) other locations determined by the commissioner to be strategic in mitigating the
1.12threat to Minnesota's waters from Asian carp.
1.13The commissioner shall award a design-build contract for the design and construction
1.14of the electric barrier at Lock and Dam 1 no later than March 15, 2013. Construction of
1.15the electric barrier at Lock and Dam 1 shall be completed no later than March 31, 2014.
1.16EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
