1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to education; creating a 21st century skills development pilot project;
1.3appropriating money.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. 21ST CENTURY SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PILOT PROJECT.
1.6    Subdivision 1. Pilot project. A 21st century skills development pilot project is
1.7established to assist youth in developing skills such as critical thinking, innovation,
1.8problem solving, collaboration, and socialization. Entities which receive funding shall
1.9be after-school and summer providers that use project-based learning, internships or
1.10apprenticeships, service learning, community engagement, or other approaches to foster
1.11such skills. Interested providers may apply to the commissioner of education in a manner
1.12and form of the commissioner's choosing. In awarding grants, the commissioner shall give
1.13extra consideration to community-based partnerships of after-school providers, especially
1.14those that partner with other types of entities.
1.15    Subd. 2. Appropriation. $....... is appropriated in fiscal year 2015 from the general
1.16fund to the commissioner of education for grants under subdivision 1.
