     A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled

 

"Michigan election law,"

 

by amending sections 60, 63, 76, 79, 170, and 173 (MCL 168.60,

 

168.63, 168.76, 168.79, 168.170, and 168.173).

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 60. (1) A Except as otherwise provided in subsection (2),

 

a governor and lieutenant governor shall be elected jointly at the

 

general November election in 1964, 1966, and every fourth year

 

thereafter.after that.

 

     (2) A governor and lieutenant governor shall be elected

 

jointly at the general November election in 2022 for a term of

 

office of 2 years. A governor and lieutenant governor shall be

 

elected jointly at the general November election in 2024 and every

 

fourth year after that for a term of office of 4 years.

 

     Sec. 63. (1) The terms of office of governor and lieutenant


governor shall commence at 12 noon on January 1 next following the

 

election , and shall continue until a successor is elected and

 

qualified.

 

     (2) The terms of office of the governor and lieutenant

 

governor elected at the general November election of 1964 shall be

 

are 2 years. The Except as otherwise provided in subsection (3),

 

the terms of office of the governor and lieutenant governor elected

 

at the general November election in 1966 and every fourth year

 

thereafter shall be after that are 4 years.

 

     (3) The terms of office of the governor and lieutenant

 

governor elected at the general November election in 2022 are 2

 

years. The terms of office of the governor and lieutenant governor

 

elected at the general November election in 2024 and every fourth

 

year after that are 4 years.

 

     Sec. 76. (1) A Except as otherwise provided in subsection (2),

 

a secretary of state and attorney general shall be elected at the

 

general November election in 1964, 1966, and every fourth year

 

thereafter.after that.

 

     (2) A secretary of state and attorney general shall be elected

 

at the general November election in 2022 for a term of office of 2

 

years. A secretary of state and attorney general shall be elected

 

at the general November election in 2024 and every fourth year

 

after that for a term of office of 4 years.

 

     Sec. 79. (1) The terms of office of the secretary of state and

 

attorney general shall commence at 12 noon on January 1 next

 

following the election , and shall continue until a successor is

 

elected and qualified.

 


     (2) The terms of office of the secretary of state and attorney

 

general elected at the general November election in 1964 shall be

     (2) A state senator in each senatorial district shall be

 

elected at the general November election in 2022 for a term of

 

office of 2 years. A state senator in each senatorial district

 

shall be elected at the general November election in 2024 and every

 

fourth year after that for a term of office of 4 years.

 

     (3) A representative in each representative district shall be

 

elected at each general November election.

 

     Sec. 173. (1) The term of office of state senator and state

 

representative shall commence commences at 12 noon on January 1

 

next following his or her election.

 

     (2) The term of office of state representative shall be is 2

 

years.

 


     (3) The term of office of state senators elected at the

 

general November election in 1964 shall be is 2 years. The Except

 

as otherwise provided in subsection (4), the term of office of

 

state senators elected at the general November election in 1966 and

 

every fourth year thereafter shall be after that is 4 years.

 

     (4) The term of office of state senators elected at the

 

general November election in 2022 is 2 years. The term of office of

 

state senators elected at the general November election in 2024 and

 

every fourth year after that is 4 years.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect

 

unless Senate Joint Resolution ____ or House Joint Resolution EE

 

(request no. 03761'15) of the 98th Legislature becomes a part of

 

the state constitution of 1963 as provided in section 1 of article

 

XII of the state constitution of 1963.
