A bill to limit liability for the reporting of suspicious
activity or behavior.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the "see
something say something act".
Sec. 2. As used in this act, "report of suspicious activity or
behavior" means a communication to a law enforcement agency or
other appropriate authority of the behavior or activity of another
individual that is made with the reasonable belief that the
behavior or activity constitutes, or is in furtherance of, a crime
or act of terrorism.
Sec. 3. (1) An individual who in good faith makes a report of
suspicious activity or behavior is immune from civil and criminal
liability that arises out of the making of the report.
(2) This section does not apply if the individual
intentionally makes the report knowing it to be false or if the
individual makes the report with reckless disregard for the truth
of the report.
Enacting section 1. This act takes effect 90 days after the
date it is enacted into law.
