SENATE RESOLUTION

     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Danielle Pedersen on being selected for the People to People Student Ambassadors program.

     Whereas, Danielle Pedersen, a freshman at Cowan Junior/Senior High School in Muncie, Indiana has been selected for the People to People Student Ambassadors program;

    Whereas, The People to People movement was founded by President Eisenhower in 1956 based on his belief that peaceful relations between nations requires mutual respect between individuals. President Eisenhower believed communication between ordinary citizens around the world was an ideal way to promote cultural understanding and harmony;

    Whereas, Danielle was nominated to the People to People program by one of her teachers;

    Whereas, To prepare for her journey, Danielle and 50 other selectees recently met at Hamilton Southeastern High

School to meet each other, work on language skills to help communicate when abroad, and share their research on pre- trip subjects they were assigned. Danielle's topic is Italian fashion;

    Whereas, Danielle's student ambassadorship is a 20-day trip to Greece, Italy, and Sicily. As part of the program, Danielle has been given a journal to write her thoughts and experiences each day of the trip;

    Whereas, Danielle, with the help of her parents Sandy and Russ Pedersen, are in the process of raising money to help send Danielle overseas. The family has written scholarship letters, and sold candy and candles to help raise money;

    Whereas, Beyond the People to People program, Danielle enjoys riding horses and listening to music; and

    Whereas, Danielle Pedersen's selection as a student ambassador in the People to People program is a tremendous honor, and a great opportunity to experience Greece, Italy, and Sicily: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate congratulates Danielle Pedersen on being selected for the People to People Student Ambassadors program.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Danielle Pedersen.
