A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing Paul J. Raver, who served
in various positions in county government for 45 years.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing Paul J. Raver, who
served in various positions in county government for 45 years.
Whereas, Paul J. Raver began his public service as a
military police officer with the United States Army from 1945
to 1947;
Whereas, Paul graduated from Purdue University with a
bachelor's degree in agriculture in 1952. In 1961, Paul
returned to Purdue where he earned his master's degree in
education;
Whereas, Paul continued his public service by serving as
the Purdue Extension Agent in Agriculture as County
Director for Shelby, Fayette, Hendricks, and Howard
counties from 1952 to 1989. He inspected corn and soybeans
for the Indiana Crop Improvement Association from 1989 to
1992;
Whereas, Paul served as an elected official on the Howard County Council from 1993 to 2000 and as Howard County Commissioner from 2001 to 2008. During Paul's tenure with Howard County, he oversaw an expansion of the
county operations, via the Administration Center and
through the use of computer technology;
Whereas, County officials describe Paul as calm,
dedicated to the community, and a committed worker who
saw every project through to completion. Paul was
particularly adept at bringing people together to reach a
consensus, regardless of the issue;
Whereas, Paul's leadership extended outside of county
government, as a leader in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic
Church, a life member of the Epsilon Sigma Phi Extension
Honorary organization, a member of the Rotary club at
Danville and Kokomo for more than 50 years, and as a life
member of the Purdue Alumni Association; and
Whereas, The people of Howard County experienced a
great loss when Paul J. Raver passed away on August 21,
2009 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife, Shirley,
and their five children: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana State Senate memorializes Paul J.
Raver and honors the many accomplishments he achieved during his
lifetime.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to the family of Paul J. Raver.
