    Whereas, Paul J. Raver began his public service as a military police officer with the United States Army from 1945 to 1947;

    Whereas, Paul graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture in 1952. In 1961, Paul returned to Purdue where he earned his master's degree in education;

    Whereas, Paul continued his public service by serving as the Purdue Extension Agent in Agriculture as County Director for Shelby, Fayette, Hendricks, and Howard counties from 1952 to 1989. He inspected corn and soybeans for the Indiana Crop Improvement Association from 1989 to 1992;

    Whereas, Paul served as an elected official on the Howard County Council from 1993 to 2000 and as Howard County Commissioner from 2001 to 2008. During Paul's tenure with Howard County, he oversaw an expansion of the

county operations, via the Administration Center and through the use of computer technology;

    Whereas, County officials describe Paul as calm, dedicated to the community, and a committed worker who saw every project through to completion. Paul was particularly adept at bringing people together to reach a consensus, regardless of the issue;

    Whereas, Paul's leadership extended outside of county government, as a leader in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, a life member of the Epsilon Sigma Phi Extension Honorary organization, a member of the Rotary club at Danville and Kokomo for more than 50 years, and as a life member of the Purdue Alumni Association; and

    Whereas, The people of Howard County experienced a great loss when Paul J. Raver passed away on August 21, 2009 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, and their five children: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the
