    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing Penn High School for winning the Class 1 Indiana Academic Spell Bowl State Finals.

    Whereas, The 28th annual Indiana Academic Spell Bowl State Finals were held at Purdue University in November of 2012. 838 teams from all over the state competed in district competitions and 30 participated in the finals;

    Whereas, Penn High School tied for first place in Class 1 with a perfect score of 90 points;

    Whereas, Penn High School has won twelve Indiana Academic Spell Bowl State championships in the last fourteen years;

    Whereas, Three seniors from the Penn High School Spell Bowl Team, Leah Hershberger, Austin Heckman, and Jenny Huang, broke an unofficial state record with the most words spelled correctly in their careers;

    Whereas, The Penn High School Spell Bowl Team has worked after school and competed in official and invitational events in order to reach such a high standard. These students represent what high school students are capable of when held to the highest standards of performance. We wish them continued success: Therefore,


Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates Penn High School's Academic Spell Bowl Team for winning the 28th Annual Class 1 Indiana Academic Spell Bowl State Finals.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Superintendent of Schools Jerry Thacker and Penn High School Principal Steve Hope.
