SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the importance of the regional campuses of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana.

    Whereas, The Lafayette region of Ivy Tech State College started as the Tippewa Technical Institute in 1968 in the arena of health career vocations;

    Whereas, The early roots of Ivy Tech in the Lafayette region are in the Ross Building, which is recognized by the Indiana Historic Landmarks Foundation and was formerly a tuberculosis sanitarium and a county nursing home before becoming Ivy Tech's administration building;

    Whereas, Griffin Hall is named in honor of George and Mabel Griffin, who, through their legacy, have established the Griffin Endowment Fund to provide scholarships to students in need;

    Whereas, Ivy Hall was opened August 2001, consolidating Ivy Tech's campus on Lafayette's southeast side;

    Whereas, The Gerald I. Lamkin Union Apprenticeship Center, which houses organized labor including the Indiana Regional Council of Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee and Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, was established in 2001 to provide a home for training new apprentices;

    Whereas, The Lafayette regional campus continues to expand its programs and partnerships, including elements

such as formal transfer and articulation agreements with Purdue University, Indiana University, Saint Joseph's College, Indiana State University, Western Governors University, Ball State University, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and Indiana Wesleyan University;

    Whereas, Cultural awareness and academic achievement continue to grow in the Lafayette Community College region through such programs and partnerships as the Hildalgo, Mexico, historic agreement signed in 2009 and the annual Latino Festival, which has drawn over 1,500 people into the Lafayette campus environment;

    Whereas, The Lafayette Campus Library is a partnership between the Tippecanoe County Public Library and Ivy Tech, contains both public and college collections as well as virtual libraries, and serves both Tippecanoe County and the greater regional area;

    Whereas, Ivy Tech students can participate in a wide range of student clubs and organizations and intramural sports through a partnership with the Lafayette Family YMCA and Junior Achievement;

    Whereas, The Career Service and Student Support Center serves students and alumni through career exploration, job zones and boards, and career fairs and by offering job search advice;

    Whereas, The White County Instructional Center serves Monticello and surrounding communities with first-year college courses as well as dual credit courses for area high school students;

    Whereas, The Montgomery County Instructional Center in Crawfordsville, which is expanding and will soon move to a new campus, serves the growing needs of the eastern and western Interstate 74 corridor and offers a complete associate degree program in business administration;

    Whereas, The expanded Agriculture Program Laboratory and Corporate Learning Center Buildings serve the students in the Departments of Agriculture, Workforce, and Economic

Development;

    Whereas, A new Renaissance Place Instructional Center in downtown Lafayette serves downtown residents and businesses as well as Purdue University students;

    Whereas, In 2011, the Lafayette Ivy Tech Region offered new programs in areas such as Advanced Manufacturing, Health Services, Therapeutic Massage, and Sustainable and Renewable Energy; and

    Whereas, Nearly 400 graduates realized their dreams in 2011 and participated in commencement ceremonies before more than 3,000 family members and friends: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
the House of Representatives concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates and supports the Lafayette regional campus of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana in its mission to enable students and citizens to realize their full potential and supports regional education and economic development within Indiana.
    SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to Ivy Tech Community College campuses in Lafayette, Crawfordsville, and Monticello.
