    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the Heinl Flower Shop in Terre Haute on 150 years in business.

    Whereas, Heinl's Flower Shop, also known as the Original Flower Shop of Terre Haute, was established in 1863 by John G. Heinl and his son Fredrick, and has left a legacy of service to the community and floral industry;

    Whereas, Heinl's Flower Shop has been in the same two- story brick building since 1903;

    Whereas, In addition to the flower shop, founder John Heinl also built Floral Hall, five greenhouses consisting of 45,000 square feet heated by steam and hot water, and specialized in the wholesale and retail production of camellias, Parisian lilacs, orchids, ferns, and an imported violet he made famous, dubbed the Princess of Wales;

    Whereas, John Heinl was a prominent businessman and philanthropist. He was a charter member of the Terre Haute Commercial Club, the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, a pioneer member of the Society of American Florists, a member of the board of managers for Rose Orphan's Home, and was elected vice president of Fort Harrison Savings Bank;

    Whereas, There have only been five owners of Heinl's

Flower Shop since 1863: the Heinls, the Beckers, the Divincenzos, the Harpers, and current owner Vanda Monts;

    Whereas, Heinl's Flower Shop offers a large variety of services to the public, including flowers and plants for every imaginable occasion, deliveries to hospitals and funeral homes, custom designing, an on-site hair salon called Annalee's Salon, and a banquet facility for 40 people named Vonda's Garden Studio;

    Whereas, Heinl's has made a series of recent updates to their business, including a new greenhouse roof, a new awning and color update, a new computer network, remodeling of the wedding consultation room, and the development of their website and online ordering system; and

    Whereas, Heinl's continued success can be attributed to a knowledgeable and passionate staff that puts exceptional care into ensuring fresh, high-quality flowers for every customer: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:


     SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate honors Heinl Flower Shop in Terre Haute on 150 years in business.
    SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to owner Vanda Monts.
