        A HOUSE RESOLUTION memorializing John Vail.
    

    Whereas, John Vail had been a Michigan City resident for more than nine decades;

    Whereas, John Vail passed away at the age of 91 at Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Michigan City;

    Whereas, A patriot and decorated war hero, John Vail served in the United States Infantry in Italy during World War II, was wounded three times during his service, and received the Purple Heart;

    Whereas, John Vail's third injury during World War II came after stepping on a land mine that caused him to be

legally blind, but he never complained about it;

    Whereas, Passionate about Michigan City, John Vail was always striving to make a great city better;

    Whereas, John Vail served as a member of the Common Council for two terms and was the Republican candidate for mayor of Michigan City in 1987;

    Whereas, In 1952 John Vail was a charter member of the Michigan City Exchange Club and was active in the club until two weeks before his passing;

    Whereas, In addition to his membership in the Michigan City Exchange Club, Vail had been on a number of other city boards, including the Festival Players Guild, International Friendship Gardens, and Elite Youth Center; and

    Whereas, John Vail was a successful businessman, community volunteer, local politician, loving husband and father, world traveler, and an American hero; his death has left a void that will be impossible to fill: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives expresses its heartfelt sympathy to the family of John Vail and its gratitude for his many accomplishments and contributions to his state and his community.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to the family of John Vail.
