A HOUSE RESOLUTION to honor the life of Fred Garver
of Boggstown.
Whereas, Fred Garver passed away on July 6th, 2011;
Whereas, Mr. Garver was for many years a familiar figure
around the Statehouse, as one of the most competent and well-
respected members of the "Third House";
Whereas, Mr. Garver was born in Boggstown, Indiana, and
lived there his whole life, graduating as the valedictorian of his
high school class in 1956 before going on to study business and
chemistry at Indiana University-Bloomington and earning his
law degree from Indiana University-Indianapolis;
Whereas, Mr. Garver spent five decades shaping public policy and politics in Indiana, first in positions as a staffer with the Indiana Democratic Party and with then-Governors Matthew Welsh and Roger Branigin, later as an attorney, consultant and lobbyist;
Whereas, Mr. Garver was widely known for his gregariousness, intelligence and persuasiveness, and liked and respected by members of the General Assembly, the Governor's Office and the lobby alike; and,
Whereas, For his life-long commitment to Indiana policy
and politics, Mr. Garver was named a Sagamore of the Wabash
by six different Governors: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives honors
and the life and memory of Fred Garver, recognizes his dedication and
hard work on behalf of his community and his state, and extends the
sincerest condolences of its members to his family on the occasion of
his passing.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the family of Fred
Garver.
