A HOUSE RESOLUTION to honor the life of Ms.
Margaret Marie Riseling.
Whereas, on April 20, 2011, Ms. Margaret Marie Riseling
will celebrate her 100th birthday; and,
Whereas, Ms. Riseling was born Margaret Marie Newland
on April 20, 1911 in the small town of Woodward, Iowa; and,
Whereas, Ms. Riseling was educated at the University of
Commerce in Des Moines, and found good work as a secretary
for Travelers Insurance before marrying her husband of 66
years, Freeman "Dutch" Riseling, back home in Woodward;
and,
Whereas, the new couple moved north to Clear Lake, Iowa, and began raising a family of three children, while Ms. Riseling continued to work as a secretary, demanding a balance between her work and home lives unconventional for women at the time; and,
Whereas, Ms. Riseling and her husband followed their daughter Suzie to Michigan City after their retirement, and her large family now includes three children, six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren, with two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren in Michigan City to care for; and,
Whereas, Ms. Riseling is known to her family, friends and
neighbors as a woman of great charity and lovingkindness,
having been for a long time active in her church and community
centers, as well as maintaining friendships in Michigan City and
Iowa; Therefore:
SECTION 1. That the House of Representatives, in admiration of
the many changes she has witnessed and the adversity she has faced in
her long life, congratulates Ms. Margaret Marie Riseling on the
occasion of her 100th birthday, thanks her for her years of service to her
neighbors and her community, and wishes her the best health and well-
being for the future.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House transmit a copy
of this resolution to Ms. Margaret Marie Riseling of Michigan City.
