A HOUSE RESOLUTION to honor the work of the
Bloomington Township Department of Fire and Emergency
Services on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.
Whereas, the Bloomington Township Department of Fire
and Emergency Services was founded in 1971, and celebrated
its 40th anniversary on January 1 of this year; and,
Whereas, in 1970 Township Trustee Fred Davis urged the
creation of the Department to supplement the services provided
by the City of Bloomington; and,
Whereas, for 40 years the Department has been at the
forefront of emergency service in Monroe County, with long-
time Township Trustee and Department supporter Jim Dawson
being the county's first CPR instructor, and the Department
boasting the county's first defibrillators in 1993, and the first
full-function fire truck owned by a rural department in 1998;
and,
Whereas, the success of the Department could not have been achieved without the commitment and hard work of the Livingston family, with Dale Livingston, a charter member and full-time firefighter for 23 years, serving as Chief from 1979 to 1986, and his son Faron serving as the current Chief since 1991; and,
Whereas, the Department's record of competence and
professionalism have led to its assumption of emergency
functions throughout Monroe County and into neighboring
counties, and its success has served as a model for the kinds of
services township government in Indiana can provide its
constituents; Therefore:
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
congratulates the Bloomington Township Department of Fire and
Emergency Services on its 40th anniversary and recognizes its many
years of dedicated service to its community and the surrounding region.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House transmit a copy
of this resolution to the Bloomington Township Trustee.
