A HOUSE RESOLUTION urging the legislative council
to assign to an existing study committee the topic of property
tax deductions for mortise and tenon barns.
Whereas, Mortise and tenon barns are built with heavy
timbers throughout construction, joined together with carved
wood joinery that forms an exposed structural frame;
Whereas, A study committee should consider the
establishment of a 100% property tax deduction against the
assessed value of certain mortise and tenon barns; and
Whereas, This type of property tax deduction would provide owners an incentive to invest in the preservation of their historic barns without being penalized with property tax
increases: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the legislative council is urged to assign to an existing study committee the topic of property tax deductions for mortise and tenon barns.
