A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Matt DeLong.
Whereas, Dr. Matt DeLong, Taylor University professor of
mathematics, received the Deborah and Franklin Tepper
Haimo Award for Distinguished College or University
Teaching of Mathematics, the highest teaching award presented
by the Mathematical Association of America;
Whereas, The Haimo Award honors college or university
teachers who have been widely recognized as extraordinarily
successful and whose teaching effectiveness has been shown to
have had influence beyond their own institutions;
Whereas, The Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of
Mathematics is the second national award received by Dr.
DeLong, who was also awarded the Henry L. Alder Award for
Distinguished Teaching by a Beginning College or University
Mathematics Faculty Member in 2005;
Whereas, Dr. DeLong, who joined the Taylor University
faculty in 1998, holds an undergraduate degree from
Northwestern University and Master of Science and Ph.D.
degrees from the University of Michigan; and
Whereas, The Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award
for Distinguished College or University Teaching of
Mathematics recognizes the high level of performance and
commitment to his students displayed by Dr. Matt DeLong:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates Dr. Matt DeLong on receiving the Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics and thanks him for his dedication to the teaching profession.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to Dr. Matt DeLong and Taylor University President Dr. Eugene Habecker.
