HOUSE

RESOLUTION No. ___

Introduced by: Crouch

        A RESOLUTION urging Congress to pass legislation prohibiting unfunded federal mandates.

    Whereas, State and local officials have urged congressional leaders to be more sensitive to the problems of their constituents in Indiana;

    Whereas, Unfunded federal mandates imposed on state and local governments have become increasingly extensive in recent years;

    Whereas, Such mandates have, in many instances, added to the growing deficits in state and local government budgets and have resulted in the need for state and local governments to increase revenue or curtail sometimes essential services;

    Whereas, Such excessive fiscal burdens on state and local governments have undermined the ability of state and local governments to achieve their responsibilities under state and local law; and

    Whereas, Local officials have urged congressional leaders to pay attention to the problems of unfunded federal mandates: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives urges the Congress of the United States to pass legislation prohibiting unfunded federal mandates legislation.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to the presiding officers and to the majority and minority leaders of both houses of Congress and to each member of Congress representing the people of Indiana.
